FIT: The Business of Social Media

As soon as I left my talk at Fashion Institute of Technology this week, I got this note from one of the students:

"I follow a lot of social media influencers on many platforms, and this is the first time I have had the chance to hear the behind the scenes of what is portrayed to be such a glamorous and 'easy' lifestyle. With society how it is today, a lot of the times myself and a lot of people I know don’t really trust social media influencers when they are promoting products because they are paid to promote. It was really refreshing to find out that there is lot of integrity behind who and what you promote, and it’s reassuring to know that hopefully there are other influencers out there like you. A lot of the times it is hard to believe someone is being genuine about a product when it is a paid sponsorship but hearing your side and how you run your business was insightful and revitalizing."

Thank you to the wonderful students at FIT for having me - and for the many beautiful thank you notes like this one. You make this influencer feel good at work every day.

At Mobile World Congress with Samsung Business

In order to look ahead, you need to look back.

Recently at Mobile World Congress America in San Francisco, I asked executives to share the number one thing they wish their mobile device still had. Check out their answers here (T9 keyboard, anyone?).

We also spoke with Carolina Milanesi of Creative Strategies, Inc. about how millennials are changing the workforce. Hear her answers in this video

And in the interest of looking back to look forward, learn what inspired me to start my own business, make my own rules and work from my own home (besides the fact I find most offices way too cold) in this feature for Fidelity Investments.

Plus, with the holidays are around the corner, are you looking to tap into the wealth of the gig economy this season? I weighed in on some ways to land some extra work and diversify your income for U.S. News and World Report, including online tools like WorkMarket and Fiverr. Check out that article here.

Ted to Toe

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Ted Baker. The opinions and text are all my own.

As you may have seen, I've been on the go a lot lately: Baltimore, The Hamptons and Europe, to name a few stops over the last month. Huge thanks to Ted Baker for helping me look fab along the way, from city to city - from desk to dinner and everything in between.
